The 2009 Pan-Canadian Summit in Montreal, Connecting Early Child Development and Schools, hosted by the Council for Early Child Development and the Canadian Council on Learning, provided one of the first opportunities for education leaders to coalesce at a national level around an early childhood agenda since provincial/territorial interest has increased over the past few years. The Summit made clear the need for leadership in this area and engagement in dialogue with the early learning & care sector, and so emerged the concept of a network to provide such support. Over the course of 2009 the concept was further developed and four organizations, the Council for Early Child Development, the Canadian Education Association, the Canadian Association of School Administrators, and the Canadian Child Care Federation
came together to establish a planning base for a Network that would draw equally on expertise from the sectors of education and early learning and care.
The need for this Network is based on our perceptions about what is happening in education and early learning and care across the country and what is needed to build a comprehensive system for children and families. Advisory Group members have spent several months discussing and writing about it. Please review this discussion piece and share your comments with the Network.
